Mithymna Grieks: Μήθυμνα) is een deelgemeente (dimotiki enotita) van de fusiegemeente (dimos) Lesbos, in de Griekse bestuurlijke regio (periferia) Noord-Egeïsche Eilanden.

Het grenst aan twee andere deelgemeenten, te weten: in het zuidoosten Petra, in het zuidwesten Mandamados. Het hoogste punt is de top van de Lepetymnos met 935 meter.

De naam Molyvos werd gebruikt tijdens het Ottomaans bewind. Dat is de reden dat de bewoners van Lesbos deze naam liever niet gebruiken. Vermoedelijk omdat Molyvos makkelijker in ‘ons’ gehoor ligt.

The name Molyvos was used during the Ottoman rule. That is why the inhabitants of Lesbos prefer not to use this name. Presumably because Molyvos is easier in "our" hearing.

Het was super - It was great.

Lekker dichtbij

Wat is Griekenland lekker dichtbij, je stapt in het vliegtuig en je bent er zo, de busreis vanaf het vliegveld is een beste rit, maar je ziet ook gelijk wat van het eiland. Onder weg naar Hotel Olive Press gaat over veel smalle weggetjes, zo smal dat sommige haarspeldbochten je doet afvragen of het wel gaat lukken met het verkeer. Aangekomen bij het Hotel, maar dan op de doorgaande weg wordt je verzocht de bus te verlaten, en dan met je koffer een stukje over een ietwat hobbelige aanlooproute naar Hotel te gaan. Best wel apart maar wel leuk.

Aangekomen bij de het Hotel, en de dan al het vriendelijke personeel wacht je op en verdeeld voor de nieuwe gasten de kamers. Een vriendelijke dame begeleide ons naar de kamer die voor ons in orde is gemaakt voor een fijne week. De kamer is klein maar alles is er, zo ook de badkamer, maar goed als het mooi weer ben je veel al buiten, en weinig op je kamer, zo is ook de avond er om op stap te gaan. De Beachbar (een soort van sloep) gelegen aan de zonneweide, direct aan het strand en met leuke muziek, lekkere drankjes en heerlijke hapjes ontbreek niet bij het gevoel van een fijne zonovergoten vakantie.

Bergop

Het stadje dat tegen bergop is gebouwd ligt er mooi bij. Als je er de avond doorbrengt is het er een drukte van jewelste, gezellige restaurants, winkeltjes en her en der klinkt er muziek uit de diverse speakers en of livemuziek in je oren. Ons favoriete restaurant was Di Vino en Meltimi hier heb je een mooi uitzicht over de zee, maar kijk ook eens in de smalle straatjes, en laat je verrassen door de diverse restaurantjes. Onze favoriete bar “Congas Beach Bar”, veel Reggae en ritmische loungemuziek maar ook een heerlijke hangplek om te lounge, met een lekker drankje. We werden er stamgasten, de ondergaande zon is daar goed te zien en geeft je wel een heel fijn romantisch vakantiegevoel.

Vakantiegevoel

Ook nog een tochtje gemaakt met een visserskotter, gezellig aan boord van een paar oude Grieken die weten wat een vakantieganger wil. Mooie tocht langs de kust, we hadden prachtig weer, mooie kustlijn en veel smeren om verbranding tegen te gaan. Onderweg nog een oorlogsboten van Turkse kant tegen gekomen en diverse gestrande boten van vluchtelingen gezien. De locatie waar we weer aan de kant werden gezet leek wel een tropische enclave, helder en veel vis, als je snorkelen houd een prachtige excursie om aan deel te nemen.

Nice and close

Greece is so close, you get on the plane and you are there in no time, the bus trip from the airport is a best ride, but you also see a bit of the island. On the way to Hotel Olive Press there are many narrow roads, so narrow that some hairpin bends make you wonder if the traffic will succeed. When you arrive at the Hotel, but then on the main road, you are requested to leave the bus and then take your suitcase along a somewhat bumpy approach route to the Hotel. Quite special but fun.

Arriving at the Hotel, and then all the friendly staff await you and distribute the rooms for the new guests. A friendly lady guided us to the room that has been prepared for us for a nice week. The room is small but everything is there, including the bathroom, but if the weather is nice you are outside a lot and not much in your room, so the evening is also there to go out. The Beach bar (a kind of dinghy) located on the sunbathing lawn, right on the beach and with nice music, tasty drinks and delicious snacks, don't miss the feeling of a nice sun-drenched holiday.

Uphill

The town that is built against an uphill is beautiful. If you spend the evening there, it is very busy, cozy restaurants, shops and here and there music will sound from the various speakers and / or live music to your ears. Our favorite restaurant was Di Vino and Meltimi, here you have a beautiful view over the sea, but also have a look at the narrow streets, and be surprised by the various restaurants. Our favorite bar “Congas Beach Bar”, lots of Reggae and rhythmic lounge music, but also a lovely hangout to lounge with a nice drink. We became regulars, the setting sun is clearly visible and gives you a very nice romantic holiday feeling.

Holiday feeling

Also made a trip with a fishing cutter, cozy on board a few ancient Greeks who know what a holidaymaker wants. Nice trip along the coast, we had beautiful weather, beautiful coastline and a lot of lubrication to prevent burning. On the way we encountered a war boats from the Turkish side and saw several stranded refugee boats. The location where we were put aside seemed like a tropical enclave, clear and lots of fish, if your snorkeling is a wonderful excursion to participate.
