Geniet van de prachtige stranden en koraalriffen in de omgeving en proef ‘s avonds van de (vis) vangst van de dag in een romantisch restaurant aan het water.

In de 19e eeuw vestigden vissers uit Puerto Rico zich in Bayahíbe. Gedurende meer dan een eeuw bleef het een klein slaperig vissersdorp. Vandaag is het een resort gericht op toeristen waar, het draait het leven rond het strand.

Lekker lui op het “publieke” Playa Bayahíbe, en ga eens een gesprek aan met lokale bewoners, of geniet van de zon op het uitgestrekte Playa Dominicus ten zuiden van het dorp. Op dat laatste strand staat een gestreepte vuurtorenbar, een geweldige plek voor een drankje aan het eind van de dag.

Ga ‘s ochtends naar de haven en ga aan boord van een speedboot of catamaran naar Isla Saona. Je kunt ookopstappen bij Viva Wyndham, als je je excursie er boekt. Wel zo makkelijk, en leert er andere gasten kennen. Wij zijn op een dag geweest dat niet iedereen op catamaran paste, als je heen op de catamaran gaat, ga je terug met een speedboot, of andersom. Wat je wel mist als je bij Viva vertrekt is de busreis naar de Haven, en ook dan zie je het één en ander.

Het eiland Saona dat deel uitmaakt van het Parque Nacional Del Este staat bekend om zijn adembenemende stranden, met hagelwit zand, palmbomen en warm helderblauw water. De bars, soms livemuziek en strandhandelaars dragen bij aan de levendige sfeer.

Op het kleinere Isla Catalina heerst een meer vredige sfeer. Duikers en snorkelaars trekken er naartoe voor een koraalrif en een duiklocatie waar vaak haaien zwemmen

Enjoy the beautiful beaches and coral reefs in the area and taste the (fish) catch of the day in a romantic restaurant by the water in the evening.

In the 19th century, fishermen from Puerto Rico settled in Bayahíbe. It remained a small sleepy fishing village for more than a century. Today it is a resort aimed at tourists where life revolves around the beach.

Relax on the “public” Playa Bayahíbe, and chat with locals, or soak up the sun on the expansive Playa Dominicus south of the village. On the latter beach is a striped lighthouse bar, a great place for a drink at the end of the day.

Head to the port in the morning and board a speedboat or catamaran to Saona Island. You can also board at Viva Wyndham if you book your excursion there. Easy, and get to know other guests. We have been on a day when not everyone on a catamaran, if you go on the catamaran, you go back with a speedboat, or vice versa. What you miss when you leave Viva is the bus trip to the harbor, and then you also see a few things.

The island of Saona, which is part of the Parque Nacional Del Este, is known for its breathtaking beaches, with white sand, palm trees and warm clear blue water. The bars, sometimes live music and beach merchants add to the lively atmosphere.

The smaller Isla Catalina has a more peaceful atmosphere. Divers and snorkelers flock there for a coral reef and a dive site where sharks often swim.
