Vaison-la-Romaine (Gallisch-Latijn: Vasio Vocontiorum: Vasio van de stam Voconti) is een Franse gemeente in het departement Vaucluse. De stad heeft twee kathedralen: de Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth in de benedenstad en de Sainte-Marie-de-l’Assomption in de bovenstad. Beide voormalige kathedralen behoorden destijds tot het bisdom Vaison. Het bisdom Vaison is sinds 1801 deel van het aartsbisdom Avignon.

Het riviertje de Ouvèze stroomt door de gemeente en scheidt de hoge stad (13e eeuw) van de moderne stad. Een van de bruggen over de rivier is de beroemde Romeinse brug die nog steeds in gebruik is. De brug heeft in het verleden een strategisch en belangrijke rol gespeeld. Tijdens de WO II werd de brug zwaar beschadigd door Duitse bombardementen. De brug werd in de oorspronkelijke staat hersteld.

De stad is gelegen in het noordelijke deel van het departement, ten zuiden van de Enclave des papes. Het ligt ongeveer 27 km van Orange, 50 km van Avignon, 10 km van Dentelles de Montmirail en 10 km van de voet van de Mont Ventoux. Het gebergte Dentelles de Montmirail ligt ten zuiden van de stad en is een aantrekkelijk klim- en wielrengebied.

Vaison-la-Romaine (Gallic-Latin: Vasio Vocontiorum: Vasio of the tribe Voconti) is a French commune in the Vaucluse department. The city has two cathedrals: Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth in the lower town and Sainte-Marie-de-l'Assomption in the upper town. Both former cathedrals belonged to the diocese of Vaison at the time. The Diocese of Vaison has been part of the Archdiocese of Avignon since 1801.

The river Ouvèze flows through the municipality and separates the high city (13th century) from the modern city. One of the bridges over the river is the famous Roman bridge that is still in use today. The bridge has played a strategic and important role in the past. During WWII, the bridge was severely damaged by German bombing. The bridge was restored to its original state.

The city is located in the northern part of the department, south of the Enclave des papes. It is located about 27 km from Orange, 50 km from Avignon, 10 km from Dentelles de Montmirail and 10 km from the foot of Mont Ventoux. The Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range is located south of the city and is an attractive climbing and cycling area.
